Norway close to Filippino`s hearts – Osanotto norjalaisille

The Filippinos are mourning with the Norwegians. The Editorial of today`s Philippine Daily Inquirer, a newspaper with wide circulation in the country, writes on the tragedy under the headline “Day of Terror”. The Editor describes the instances of horrific violence ironic, because Norway is “one of the most peaceful and peace-loving countries”. Norway is according to Inquirer “a pacifist, peaceful country” famous of hosting the annual Nobel Peace Prize awards. Norway is also very well- known for involvement in many peace processes in many parts of the world. The Editor realizes that in recent years Norway has taken a greater role in international politics, and particularly in peace keeping and peace promotion.   The contribution of Norway is mentioned in mediation between Israel and Palestine Liberation Organization. Norway was also the chief mediator in the conflict between the Sri Lankan government and Tamil separatists. In the Philippines the Norwegians are highly valued as a mediator of all these conflicts. But this is not enough. The efforts of Norway in mediation between Philippine government and National Democratic Front since 1996 have been extremely important for the country.   That brings the Norwegians close to the hearts of Filipinos. This bond exists despite of the distance of thousands kilometers between the countries. That is what Philippine Daily Inquirer tells us today. It shows highly appreciation of the Norway by the Filippinos and their sympathy with the Norwegians.

Olen seurannut CNN:n ja BBC:n välittämänä Norjan tapahtumia tuntien sisäistä kipua ja hämmennystä.  Olen tuntenut syvää avuttomuutta väkivallan ja mielettömyyden keskellä. Jotain haluaisin tehdä. Kun norjalaiset ovat olleet mielessäni, päätin kaivaa esiin vanhan ystäväni sähköpostiosoitteen. Kun sen lopulta onnistuin löytämään, panin lyhyen osanottoviestin. Kuvittelin mielessäni, että se oli eräänlainen kynttilä, jonka sytytin norjalaisille uhreille.

Vastaus viestiini tuli parissa tunnissa. Siitä ymmärsin, kuinka tärkeitä kaikki eri tahoilta tulleet, tavalla tai toisella tukea antavat viestit heille nyt ovat. Ystäväni luetteli, keiltä valtionjohtajilta oli tullut osanottotervehdyksiä ja millä eri tavoin uhreja muistetaan. Norjalaisten tuska on nyt suuri. Olkoon tämä blogi suomalaisen expatin osanotto norjalaisen suruun.
